Residential Retrofits: WestSource Solutions has worked with several existing home owners to provide green energy and energy conservation which include: solar water heating, drain water heat recovery, hot water recirculation, and in floor radiant heating systems. To date WestSource Solutions has successfully implemented four types of in floor radiant heating systems, with a design based on the unique constraints of each case.
Solar Thermal Energy Collection Using Roadway Surfaces Research: WestSource Solutions in partnership with Communities of Tomorrow successfully executed a technology and market research assessment for its solar thermal collection and underground thermal energy storage application. The first application of the collected and stored thermal energy is snow and ice control for bridges and roadways.
This project also included WestSource Solutions partnering with Communities of Tomorrow to sponsor a University of Regina Engineering Student group for their 4th Year Engineering design project. The group implemented the solar thermal energy collection test site south of 10 Research Drive at Innovation Place. WestSource Solutions will continue to collect data during the summer of 2008 to determine the amount of solar thermal energy can be collected from roadway surfaces.
Target Carbon Neutral™: WestSource Solutions is the University of Regina Students’ Union green energy and sustainability consultant. In Stage 1 of the project WestSource Solutions bench marked URSU’s emissions from its energy use and its water consumption as a result of the daily operations of its facilities. In addition, WestSource Solutions will provide recommendations and a plan of action of how to economically reduce its emissions and water consumption. URSU’s goal is to become the first carbon neutral students’ union in Canada.
3D Modeling of Small Scale Vertical Axis Turbine: WestSource Solutions provided 3D modelling, design, bench test, data recording and analysis, and troubleshooting services for Ontario based company working to develop and manufacturer small scale vertical axis turbines.
